About Kijani House Hotel, Lamu
Kijani House retreat is a luxury house in Shela Village, Lamu, Kenya offering holiday rental accommodation with cool and shady terraces.
With a name meaning green in Swahili, Kijani House is a lush retreat on the beachfront of Shela. Framed by clusters of frangipani and bougainvillea, this whitewashed Swahili house recreates the atmosphere of the early days of Lamu.
There are 9 en-suite double rooms and 2 suites which include living room and large veranda. The rooms are adorned with local antiques, lanterns and ornaments. The 2 ground floor rooms have wheelchair access. The restaurant offers a set menu that changes daily, and can include dishes such as grilled beef fillet, fish tartar, crab cakes with spicy mayonnaise and passion fruit mousse. There is also an a la carte menu including tuna kebab, saffron risotto, chef’s salad and Lamu dahl. The bar has a selection of soft drinks, beers, wines, spirits and cocktails, and games such as bao, backgammon and solitare. There is also a swimming pool and gift shop. Kijani House has its own boat and tour guide. Short and full-day boat trips can be arranged, as well as guided tours of Shela. A local masseuse offers aromatherapy massage, reflexology, manicure and pedicure. The hotel minimises its environmental impact by using solar heated water and donating food waste to local donkeys.
