What those who have been here are saying

  • Spent 2 nights there acclimatising before our regular Masai Mara Safari. Beautiful setting and amazing whether despite the high altitude. Accommodation was lovely but the best thing about the trip was the friendly and helpful staff, all of whom bent over backwards to ensure we had everything. A special thank you to our guide George who worked hard to ensure we saw as much as possible

  • Visited Aberdare County Club with my family. The scenery is breath taking! Rooms okay and very spacious and clean. Overall staff are very good and professional to my disappointment one of the most important person in the hotel who is the receptionist is supposed to meet and welcome visitors with a smile and give a good impression for the rest of the staff. ANN the receptionist then was the most miserable, unhelpful, unpresentable staff member in the hotel should not be anywhere close to the front desk. Apart from that food is not great in anyway, you would expect to eat fresh food including meat, ate pork which gave me serious food poisoning seems it was refrigerated for a long time. Will not be returning there. Room Tip: If you find a helpful receptionist they will give you what options are available

  • ..this is one place that I would give four thumbs up, (including the ones on my feet). The road to the country club is well tarmaced, that is if you use Nyeri town, there's a small stretch of murram which is accessible even by a small car. As you drive up to the car park next to the reception you can actually see wild animals ( warthogs, deers, dikdiks) roaming freely within well manicured grounds. We were graciously welcomed, and shown to our lovely cottage. Extremely homely, spacious, neatly furnished and an awesome view of the mountains. The menu was varied and the waiters were very courteous, friendly and very helpful. The club has a sanctuary from where you may mingle at a -safe distance- with girrafes, zebras and the wild species of the goat variety. You may even take evening walks as you enjoy the sundowner. If you have the luxury of time, you may drive nearby to the Aberdares National Park which is a few kilometers away. The Aberdares Country Club....,,,anytime!!!

  • We arrived to Aberdare Country Club on the new year eve and day. The place is a paradise on earth with the beautiful landscape and the mountainous green forests. The buildings has the great scent of colonial architect though renovated. The food is among the best I have tasted in Kenya and staff are very friendly and very helpful with a wide nice smile. The cottages are very romantic and nicely spaced and nicely furnished. The don't have TVs but who needs any Room Tip: While all the cottages have are designed to be private, the higher ones have better view. Their num...

  • The place is 20 kilometers from Nyeri town with very good roads, just a small patch of rough road but is accessible with a small car. On entering i came across zebras, gazelles, wildebeests and antelopes grazing freely. The place is like an old castle, with beautiful lawn, gardens and very mature garden. The property is very well maintained and not forgetting the peacocks very many of them. The rooms located on a slope all facing the open grounds and mweiga hills, the rooms have a fire place, with nice comfortable bed, sofas and coffee table. The bathroom is modern with a bathtub to relax in the perfect mount Kenya weather. their is a swimming pool and also spa available in the premises. Everything well taken care of. The food is AWESOME a large buffet in the middle of nowhere fantastic. The staff were abit rude though as you wouldn't expect a 5 star property to have such like people running the business. But overall the place is magnificent and would definitely go there again

  • Nice quiet environment suitable for a getaway. We came here for a 2 nights getaway from the city before the festivities and it was a nice break. However, they could do better on a few things e.g. 1. we had asked for a room that didn't have an adjoining room. We were promised that we would get a quiet room and as the place wasn't fully booked we were were shocked when we went to sleep another family that was noisy checked into the room next door. Next day we complained but empty promises was all we got. 2. We went to the spa to request for massage service. When we entered, we found a gentleman who just stared at us. We didn't know whether we'd come to the wrong place. No greetings and he looked like someone who'd just sat there to pass time. The ambience wasn't right so we left without getting any service. 3. The food could do better. The chef was trying to impress I guess, but if you don't know how to make a particular dish, please don't experiment on guests...stick to what you're good at. 4. When we booked we asked for a baby cot. When we arrived (3pm) it was still not in the room. Even after repeatedly calling reception it finally arrived after 8pm when we'd gone for dinner. Other unimpressive mistakes included being brought for a COLD "hot water bottle" at night and when we arrived at the gate they didn't have our names on the list even if we had booked a week earlier. On the brighter side, the restaurant staff were excellent. Special mention to Mr. Mwai who made our dining experience super despite everything else we didn't enjoy. Thanks to the kitchen/waiting staff. The bar man was exceptionally rude though, no smile and always in a grumbling mood. In general, it's a nice place to go to if you want serenity and a great view. Needs a lot of improvement on Customer Service all round. Room Tip: Be ready to walk up a flight of very steep stair or slopes to get to your room

A Haven in the Hills…

The Aberdare Country Club, only a two and a half hour drive northeast from Nairobi, is nestled on a slope of Mweiga Hill in the Aberdare Highlands, part of the Great Rift Valley. This captivating site was the homestead of an English couple that decided to settle in Kenya. Almost a half century later, their home, “The Steep”, was renamed the Aberdare Country Club and opened for guests. Considered a heritage property in Kenya, The Aberdare Country Club has retained the charm of a private home with the simple comforts of a country inn.
